THE THEMATIC CLASSIFICATION of Jean Girel's work reflects his ambivalent approach : on the one hand we have his love of Song China with his celadons, white pieces and black bowls; reference to the great masters of glazes from the last two centuries : Chaplet and Dalpayrat with his copper reds, Decoeur with the white and marbled pieces; and then on the other hand we have the extraordinary originality of new directions he has taken with his collections we can call 'materials', 'shells', 'menagerie', 'iridescent'...
His creations from the last thirty years can be seen in many museums and in the few private collections which are open to the public (see collections).
His recent pieces can be seen in galleries that show his works, in temporary exhibitions and, by appointment, at the display room of his workshop in Corcelle (see photo below).
>THE DISPLAY ROOM AT CORCELLE, which was designed by Jean Girel and Valérie Hermans in the courtyard of their house-cum-workshop, has a glass roof. By day, the displayed pieces can be seen as if in daylight; by night, the mixed lighting system they installed, faithfully reproduces the true colours of their works.
